When the 2013 U.S. Census was released, one of the key findings was from 2002-2012 there had been no progress in women's pay equity with women's earnings remaining at 78% of men's earnings. In that same year, Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, released her book "Lean In", which got people talking again about women in the workplace. The unique perspective Sandberg brought to the conversation was an element of personal accountability, and she encouraged women to speak up, stay engaged, and answer the question: "What would you do if you weren't afraid?". Katty Kay and Claire Shipman, two prominent journalists and the authors of the already successful Womenomics, continue the conversation with their book, "The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance---What Women Should Know", released in April of 2014. This book brings science and psychology together to define confidence for women and how we can further our goals by engaging in four key behaviors: less people pleasing, more action instead of perfectionism, more risk taking, and faster failure.
